Training

Training so far has been pretty hit and miss. After getting the bikes in September we managed a few 20 miles rides and then the cold weather hit, just colds fine but snow and ice isn’t great so we have only really started to get back into it. We do need to up the training especially cycling a big mileage and getting back on the next day!

Saturday 20th February

Even though the temperature stayed around freezinf we were determined to do a longer run today. We managed a hilly 28 miles and felt okay. We went over the back road from Glentaggart to Crawfordjohn then over to Glengonnar, down into Abington and back to Douglas. It was freezing though, we both hope May is much warmer.

Saturday 27th February
Had to go and buy an exercise bike today. We have had bad weather and snow all week making it impossible to train. Managed 60k on the exercise bike whilst watching the two rugby matches!

Monday 1st march
Bad weather again yesterday so another 60k on the exercise bike. Much better today did a couple of laps up down the cycle path to abington 26 miles. Gorgeous scenery with the snowy hills but still cold.

Tuesday 2nd march
Another beautiful day, snow on the hills but gorgeous blue sky. Did a very hilly 24 miles. Been following the sports relief cyclists that spurred me on they are cycling through the night!

Saturday 27th March
After a couple of weeks of not managing much training we cycled the 30 miles down to Moffat today. The good thing was we felf fresh and could of carried on.

Saturday 10th April
Sunny and warm at last, did a very hilly 40 miles to Leadhills and back, made such a difference being warm. We even sat for half an hour, to eat some snacks and soak up the sun.

Sunday 11th April

Cycled out to Moffat, mostly on the National Cycle Network route by the M74, with a slight diversion over Greenhillstairs to get a good downhill run to Moffat.  Came back along the NCN route, the climb up to Beatock Moor seemed like rather heavy going on the way back.  At just over 60 miles it was our longest training ride so far.
