Tired in Tain

14 05 2010

Early finish today, our bodies really are starting to complain, with 14 days of cycling under our belts. We completed 48 miles today and are in a hotel in Tain. We aim to cover around 60 tommorrow and then 30 on Sunday and that should be us. We really are looking forward to a rest. Today’s inspiration in the map case was Betty F,s card and we went back and reread slot of our comments today as we were tired by lunchtime.

All the best lunch spots

14 05 2010

Most spots for a break or lunch are spent in ditches on the side of busy roads, not the best!

Sunshine and showers

14 05 2010

Set off in gorgeous sunshine over a giant hill to Beauly our breakfasts nearly reappeared! Then been in showers, traffice jams in Dingwall and a very busy A9 now, just seen a welcoming sign of john o groats 104 miles, hurrah. Yesterdays inspiration was bobby, moiras and gillians good luck card. Mum and dad are in Douglas ready to come and collect us. The end is in sight. Thanks for all the messages they really do help.

No signal in Drumnadrochit!

13 05 2010

John here, providing a late night update on Thursday…

It appears even an iphone isn’t a match for the mountains of Scotland and Sarah had to resort to a landline earlier to inform me that they’ve reached Drunmadrochit and are safely tucked up in a hotel with a triumphant 72 miles under their belts today. Saddle sores continue to be a pain in the …. an issue.

Thanks to all for their continued support and messages.

Looking for Nessie

13 05 2010

50 miles by 3.30pm. A record! Thank goodness there is a tailwind as we are both suffering with sore knees from yesterday’s climbing and have had to resort to two pairs of shorts because the saddle sores are beyond repair. We are at Fort Augustus and about to start the search for Nessie!

Tailwind at last

13 05 2010

Hurrah! At last we have a tailwind! Flew the 15 miles to Fort William in under an hour. Yipee!
